  • Should I Update my Company’s Existing Website?

Should I Update my Company’s Existing Website?

Our last post focused on whether your business needs a website. The answer was a resounding yes. Let’s explore a similar topic – do you need to update, or modernize your company’s existing website? Again, the answer is a clear yes and here’s why.

It Means You’re Current

A modern website shows your potential customers that you’re current – on all levels. This is a good thing. Being current tells people you’re interested in: improving, using the latest technology, aware of new policies or regulations affecting your industry, utilizing new products or safety precautions, adapting to your clients or meeting their interests, etc. Customers prefer doing business with companies that they can believe in and trust; and, it’s easier to do this with businesses that are current.

It Makes Your Marketing More Effective

Give me two websites, each with the exact same content and pictures. Now imagine that one is way out of date and the other looks more modern and fresh. Viewers will prefer the former every time.

The reasoning is related to the above. Consumers respond better to things that look new, clean and fresh. They find greater trust and excitement in those companies that exude a sense of operating in “real time.” As consumers place greater emphasis on all things current, your updated website becomes a more effective and powerful marketing tool.

It’s a Reason to Connect with Old Clients or Past Leads

After you update your website, you’re not supposed to sit back and relax. Show the world what you’ve done. Go to email and send links to your new site. Go to social media and post on how you’ve modernized your company and the way you do business. Send out newsletters that unveil the new you. And…. target all of this to old customers and leads that never quite came to fruition. Getting re-acquainted with this audience may bring new business from former friends.

It’s not Difficult

Updating your company’s website doesn’t mean that you must build a brand new one that will break the bank. Some great examples of simple updates include:

  • Revising the web content
  • Adding new pictures
  • Using a new theme
  • Incorporating a blog
  • Deleting outdated site pages
  • Adding cleaner site pages
  • Changing fonts and colors
  • Making things more organized via new menus, widgets, or similar tools

All the above have the impact of transitioning a site from days of old to something new. Combine a few at once and…look out! You’ll have a fresh site that consumers want (and expect).

Of course, updating does require time. But, that’s why I’m here. Contact me today and let’s discuss how we can bring your existing website into modern times. I’m a Seattle area freelance writer with almost a decade of experience helping companies update their existing website. Contact me now and let me help you.
